OK, besides touring the open house in Winters today, please know the elk head that is in the garage is going with the listing agent to its new home in Land Park. It doesn’t come with the home on 204 White Oak Lane. Don’t ask me why I’ve developed this affinity for a taxidermy elk head, but it’s got 5 points, which I think are the horn thingies (that make people all excited), and it’s a critter that my seller shot and killed with her own rifle. My husband, I should note, is not as enthusiastic about it as I. But he is supportive of my offbeat desires.

What does stay with the home are the 27 trees planted in the back yard. The story goes when the original owners were married, their family owned a landscaping company, and wanted to give the young couple a surprise wedding present. While they were away on their honeymoon, the family planted all of the trees in the yard as a gift. No joke, it is like a forest in the back and beautiful. Included is a gorgeous covered patio, and you’ll also find grapes growing along the fence on the side.

The home was built in 1999; it’s a one-story with lap siding and a pretty covered front porch. Off to the side are two tire tracks made of brick that lead to the slab for RV or boat parking behind the double gate. In addition to the 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths, you’ll find an incredibly large kitchen and breakfast nook, just the other side of the spacious living room, both areas with gleaming hardwood floors that look as beautiful, most likely, as the day they were installed.

There is a fireplace in the living room and the ceiling is vaulted, which is how “Elkie” fit so nicely mounted on that wall. My husband refuses to let me put her over our family room sofa, even though there is no, say, fiberglass Marlin there now, as there could have been if I had ever caught a Marlin during our last Hawaii trip to the Big Island.
