when plugging in an iPhone does not charge
How to Fix iPhone 7 Refusal to Charge and Data Blockages
My Apple phone has its share of problems lately, like the iPhone 7 refusal to charge and data blockages, which I’ve never encountered with any of my other iPhones. Part of this seems to be that the phone is trying to do too many things at one time. Perhaps it just can’t handle the multiple functions, strains it. Since it’s so thin, I feel it shiver every time it tries to perform any function. It’s like cheap-ass Victoria Secret’s garments made in China. Just isn’t up to the job. Victoria’s Secret used to sell gorgeous silky nightgowns and luxurious items, but once it caught on and became hugely popular, now the thread count is so thin you can rip it in half with two fingers.
My iPhone 7 refusal to charge came about because I had been playing music through my sound bar while at our vacation house in Hawaii earlier this month. At the same time I sent a few text messages with photos while emails also hit my iPhone. In the middle of all of this activity, my phone would also ring with a caller, which paused the music. Yes, even on holidays, people call agents. I’m generally wired and available when I’m in Hawaii. After all, I sell Sacramento real estate full-time. I determined that I physically wore out my iPhone 7.
That particular night, I plugged in my iPhone and shut it off. The following morning, I noticed there was an iPhone 7 refusal to charge. I was down to 13% battery power. I plugged in my iPad to see if it would begin charging to rule out whether it was my charger. Nope, my charger worked, but it refused to charge my iPhone 7. I tried plugging it into my computer, and the iPhone 7 would not charge, either.
The trick to fixing this did not occur to me until I was down to 4% power. Of course, it was the 4th of July. No Apple stores were open in Kona. I had tried every conceivable combination of fixes until I hit the one that worked. The way you fix an iPhone 7 refusal to charge is:
- Hold the power button on the right-hand side of the phone and, at the same time
- Depress the “down” sound button on the left-hand side of the phone.
This combination reset the guts of the iPhone 7 and when it powered back, I could charge it. It took almost 3 hours to fully charge the darned phone.
The other problem I’ve had with the iPhone 7 Plus is data blockages. Everything seems to be working fine when all of a sudden I realize out in the field that I have not received an email for 30 minutes. That’s what tells me I’m not receiving data. Because I always get emails. It seems to happen primarily when I’ve been connected to WiFi and then disconnect to cellphone coverage. Data blockages have been happening sporadically. It doesn’t happen every time I disconnect from WiFi, only now and then.
The fix for iPhone 7 data blockages is:
Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Do not, I repeat do NOT hit reset all settings or you will need to reset all of your personal preferences. Just click “reset network settings.” Been there and done that. Bleh. They don’t make it easy to do while you’re driving down the freeway, that’s for sure. And geez, Louise, I sure hope the iPhone 8 is better.
